In order to achieve his goal of destroying his rival, he renounces God and vows to do everything in his power.
Throughout the play, he acts as Mozart’s right-hand man. Salieri rages at Mozart in Amadeus, one of Mozart’s works.
Anger against God explodes in response to professional jealousy. Mozart has what Salieri cannot compete with: genius. To become a great composer, Salieri has given himself the gift of God. “Amadeus,” by Peter Shaffer, will be performed by Albuquerque Little Theatre beginning Friday, August 23rd. There is no concrete evidence that Salieri ever harmed Mozart, but the two men’s relationship was definitely strained by Salieri’s envy. He was resentful of Mozart’s talent and success, and he may have even felt threatened by Mozart’s genius.
But as Mozart’s star began to rise, Salieri’s jealousy grew. In the early days of their acquaintance, Mozart and Salieri were on good terms.
